الوصف
The site contains remnants of large buildings, some made of stone and others of mud, as well as artifacts dating back to the pre-Islamic period and successive Islamic periods, up to the 11th century AD. Evidence of settlement during the Abbasid period has been found in the northern and central parts of the site, while the southern part shows signs of settlement during the medieval and late Islamic periods. Jerash is located on the pilgrimage route coming from Yemen and was known for its leather and military industries, including the mangonel, the "aradat" (a type of ancient siege weapon), and what was known as "dabbabat" (early tanks). Jerash was also known during the time of the Prophet Muhammad as an important commercial center, and its people embraced Islam during his lifetime.
